About Jacomo

Jacomo is co-founder and CEO of PhysicsX. His fundamental motivation is to explore the opportunities that technology affords us to advance the most complex and systemically important industries - and in so doing propel humanity forward.

He is an engineer and computer scientist with a deep background in enterprise AI, having spent his career designing and building machine learning systems across industries.

He is the co-founder of QuantumBlack and was its Chief Scientist from its origins in Formula One through to a global footprint as a McKinsey company with more than 1000 practitioners globally. He led some of QuantumBlack’s most pioneering applications across several sectors including in engineering and manufacturing control in advanced industries, monitoring in infrastructure construction, production in energy and mining, life sciences R&D, and sport - among which, the development of deep reinforcement learning capabilities in Motorsport and the America’s Cup.

He was a partner at McKinsey and a leader of the Digital and Analytics and Advanced Industries Practices. Jacomo started his career as Chief Race Strategist for the Renault (Alpine) F1 Team where he pioneered the use of machine learning in race strategy and during which time the team won back-to back double World Championships.

Jacomo has a PhD in computer science and a Masters in applied statistics from Harvard University, as well as a Bachelor in electrical engineering from McGill University. He was a Senior Fellow at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, the Canada Research Chair of Information Management at the University of Ottawa, and a founding member of the Partnership on AI’s Fair, Accountable, and Transparent AI initiative. He continues to serve on McKinsey’s Technology Council.
